Waste Legislation & Updates

Simpler Recycling

– How “Middletons” can help –

What does this new legislation mean?

It was intended that, from 31 March 2025, all businesses and other non-household premises with 10 or more full-time employees must have a separate collection for the dry recyclable materials below:

Plastic

Paper and Card

Glass

Metals

-FOOD- Businesses were also required to separate food waste from general waste, regardless of the amount produced.

November 2024 Update

This policy statement sets out the government’s position on several exemptions, which will be implemented by an affirmative statutory instrument (SI) in December 2024. The timing of this statement ahead of that SI is to provide more time for businesses and local authorities to prepare.

Next Update

Secondary legislation implementing the policy updates SHOULD be laid in December 2024, subject to parliamentary process.

Updating Our Customers

We will be updating our customers throughout Q1 2025. And likely the remainder of 2025 as the legislation is “tweaked”. By 2026 we expect the 2027 deadline for soft plastics + smaller business compliance to be a smoother transition without the last minute amendments.
