What Is Duty Of Care (DOC)?

Domestic Skip Hire FAQs

Will My Skip Have A Door For Wheelbarrow Access?

All our Skips are easy fill skips and come with full width door(s) giving you EASY ACCESS for loading with a wheelbarrow, and walk in access.

Unlike our competitors, our whole rage of skips (barring the MiniBin) have walk in access.

Will A Skip Lorry Fit On My Driveway?

We need around 12ft of width to allow our skip lorries to deliver a skip on your driveway.

You can help us deliver your skip on time by ensuring your drive is not blocked, and that their is adequate room for a lorry to swing onto your drive / turn in the road.

Can I Have A Skip On The Road Or Grass Verge?

To place any skip on the road or grass verge, local councils will require a road permit to be purchased and issued. Lights and road cones will also need to be placed on the skip.

Failure To Obtain A Permit Can Result In Large Fines From The Council – Fines are payable by the hirer and not the skip company!!!

Each council has its own rules regarding cost of permit and how long the permit lasts. We apply a surcharge of around £10 to cover administration and rental of cones/lights:

Doncaster (DMBC):

  • Permit Cost £25
  • Notice Required: Same Day
  • Expiry 7days
  • Verify we have registered your permit with Doncaster council HERE.

Barnsley (BMBC):

  • Permit Cost £35
  • Notice Required: 24Hr
  • Expiry 14days
  • Verify we have registered your permit with Barnsley council  HERE

Rotherham (RMBC):

  • Permit Cost £35
  • Notice Required: Same Day
  • Expiry 14days

In some cases an inspector will need to be sent out to access safety and access for emergency services, this is why a permit cannot always immediately be issued.

I Have A Heavy Load, What Is The Biggest Skip I Can Hire?

Heavy materials such as: soil, clay, hardcore, concrete and brick rubble pose a problem for other skip companies whom may state that the largest skip you can have for heavy waste is a 6-8 Tonne skip (or 8-12 Cubic Yards).

C.H. Middleton Ltd. utilise cable-lift equipment, therefore we are in quite a unique position to offer you skips upto 14 Tonne (or 16 Cubic Yards) for heavy/dense wastes.

Please contact our team on 01302 783 731 for more information.

How High Can I Fill The Skip?

To abide by the law you must ensure that:

  • The skip is filled no higher than its highest side;
  • The load is safe to be transported on the road.

The use of “Greedy Boards” is not permitted as they make the load unstable!

Our drivers are permitted to refuse an overloaded skip, or one that is not deemed safe to transport.
